Kim Thatcher -- Strong Leadership on the Issues That Matter Most to Oregonians

Kim on the floorEconomy & Jobs: As a small business owner Kim knows first-hand how it can often be difficult to deal with state government. She spearheaded new laws to give businesses a say in the rulemaking process, and provide more information about whether tax incentives for economic development are actually producing the jobs originally promised. Government shouldn't be the one to create jobs and Kim will continue to fight for policies that improve the atmosphere so private sector can put more Oregonians back to work.

Government Accountability: Kim Thatcher has been a leader in the effort to ensure Oregonians' hard earned tax dollars are being spent wisely. In her work on the Audits and Information Technology Committee, as well as the legislative budget committee, she isn't afraid to ask the tough questions. Thanks to Kim's efforts the Oregon Transparency Website was created, stronger laws have been enacted to audit school districts, and she continues to push for prioritizing services provided by state government.

Immigration Reform: Funding for state programs should be going to those who are in our country legally. That's why Kim has worked tirelessly for sensible immigration laws in Oregon including requiring all state agencies to use the federal E-verify employment screening process as a tool toward achieving a legal workforce. She has many other legislative proposals in this area including ways to reduce the impact of illegal immigration on the criminal justice system.

2nd Amendment Rights: Kim is seen by many as a champion for Oregonians who want to exercise their rights to own firearms. After several attempts in recent years she was finally able to get new protections in the law to guard the privacy of law abiding citizens who have been issued Concealed Handgun Licenses (CHL). Legislation to help people from other states with a CHL who want to carry in Oregon and improvements to the state's system for gun purchase background checks remain high on her list of priorities.
